The Activities

40-Yard Dash

The 40-yard dash is a sprint covering 40 yards run to evaluate speed and acceleration.

Horizontal Jump

The horizontal jump (historically called the broad jump) combines speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a take off point.

Vertical Jump

The vertical jump is the act of raising one’s center of gravity higher in the vertical plane solely with the use of one’s own muscles; it is a measure of how high an individual or athlete can elevate off the ground from a standstill.

3-Cone Drill

The 3-cone drill is a test performed to evaluate agility, quickness and fluidity of movement.

Three cones are placed five yards apart from each other forming a right angle. The participant starts with one hand down on the ground and runs to the middle cone and touches it. The participant then reverses direction back to the starting cone and touches it. The participant reverses direction again but this time runs around the outside of the middle cone on the way to the far cone running around it in figure eight fashion on their way back around the outside of the middle cornering cone.

The Gauntlet

The Gauntlet begins with two initial throws and catches prior to starting the movement portion of the drill. After catching the initial throws, the participant will run across the field catching balls, alternating between each side.

Punt Return

Participants will catch a ball launched by a JUGS machine from the 50-yard line. After gaining possession of the ball, the participant will start their return, avoiding a number of defenders along the way.

20-Yard Shuttle

The 20-yard shuttle is a test performed to evaluate the quickness and change-of-direction ability.

The name 20-yard shuttle is derived from the total yards that participants travel during the drill. The participant starts at the center cone of 3 cones, each a distance of 5 yards apart. The participant then pushes off their dominant leg in the opposite direction for 5 yards and touches the line. After covering this distance and touching the line as quickly as possible, the participant must reverse and go 10 yards in the opposite direction and again touch the line. Finally, they reverse direction again, ending the drill at the starting point after traveling another 5 yards.

Passing Accuracy Throw

Participants will throw balls from a distance of 5-20 yards (depending on age) through tire rings, each worth a different point value.

Mini Camp

Participants will run through a combination of horizontal tire ladders, cone slaloms and free-standing tackling dummies before reaching the endzone.

Stair Climb

Starting at the bottom of the Renton Memorial Stadium grandstand stairs, participants will climb the staircase as quickly as possible until they reach the top.
